Phantom drawing – a look inside technical products

Question:

How can the internal components and functional relationships of technical products be shown without losing the external context and product shape? Pure sectional views remove important points of orientation – but the viewer must also understand how the interior and exterior views are connected.

Solution:

The phantom drawing is a tried and tested method of technical illustration: the outer shell of the product is shown transparently, allowing a view of the inside – without the overall shape being lost. The viewer sees the housing and internal components in context at the same time. This elegant form of illustration is ideal for operating instructions, assembly instructions, training documents, technical trade magazines and product brochures – wherever technical understanding and aesthetic presentation need to come together.
